A Hug When Needed Most

A
couple of years ago I was in a car accident. Traveling northbound, the car
slipped over the edge of a steep embankment, rolled over and landed upside
down in the breakdown lane of the southbound side of the highway. We're
only alive because we were wearing seatbelts. What I remember most clearly
is that by the time I was able to get out of the car (I was pretty much
uninjured), several cars had already stopped and people were running to
help us. My friend was injured, not life-threatening as it turned out, but
there was a lot of blood. Several people helped him, but the person I remember
most is the man who held me while I cried. I don't even remember his face,
just his plaid flannel shirt and the way he held me tight and kept telling
me everything would be all right. He gave me a hug when I needed it more
than I ever had before or since.
