Feeding the Meter

Many
of us living in towns where we must pay for street-side parking meters,
find the alloted time at the meters too short to run all the errands we
have in a given day. The other day I parked at a meter and ran off to do
my errands. I was gone over 30 minutes. Fearing a ticket on my window, I
ran back to my car. Someone had paid the meter, and put a very nice note
on my windshield asking me to do the same for someone else sometime. I was
very moved by this simple act. Now I will often look for other cars with
an expired meter and put the coins in to give that shopper a little relief
from the meter patrols. I had heard of this act being done before. But when
it happened to me it really made me think. I guess the small ways we effect
one another really do make a difference.
