Acts Before the Hype

I
am a 36-year-old newspaper editor, and a while back I had a reporter who
was living in near poverty. Newspapers are very cheap with salaries, especially
the chain I was working for at the time. She needed $200 one month just
to make her rent. I had been in the same predicament many times before,
and empathized with her.
I
slipped 2 $100 bills in an envelope into her car anonymously. To this day
she doesn't know from where it came. It gave me great pleasure to help her,
and it got her out of a jam.
She's
done very well since, and now has a high-paying editorial position with
a major daily newspaper.
This
was something I did back before the recent "Random Acts of Kindness"
craze.
