Stitch in Time

There
is a group here in New Orleans doing an amazing act of kindness. Because
our infant mortality rate is so high (high number of teenage mothers) and
frequently these children come from poverty, a group of ladies started making
tiny gowns to bury the babies in. This may seem incredible but all too often
the mother goes to the hospital with nothing to take the baby home in. When
the baby is stillborn, they are buried in just a diaper. The gowns cost
next to nothing made out of a tiny amount of fabric and decorated with bits
of lace. But the emotional help to the mothers is immeasurable. If you know
how to sew (even a beginner) and would like to do something like this in
your town, contact your local charity hospital. They would probably welcome
the kindness.
