Exomologesis: Forgiveness of wayward behavior requires penance. According
to early Christians, when restitution is completed over a period of time,
then a member can be restored to the community, self-respect intact.
A glaring deficiency of Western Society, is in the rehabilitation of wayward
felons. They are never restored to the community with their self-respect
intact! More than likely you will remain forever an outcast. If you have
been in prison (or even just fired), and disclose this on a job application,
do you think you will get hired. Probably not. Hence, the high rate of recidivism
among exconvicts.
